BOX SCORE

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball stayed atop the Iowa Conference standing on Saturday after a hard fought road victory 74-64 over the Simpson College Storm. The Spartans are tied for the conference lead (3-1) with Central College while five teams sit just a game back tied for third with 2-2 marks in league action.

Three Spartans would end the afternoon in double digits. Jake Weber sank 6-7 free throws to lead UD with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Norris trailed with 15 points and 14 rebounds as teammate Kain Arthofer added 12 points. UD shot over 50% from the field in the first half, but a chilly 2-12 shooting from beyond the three point arc in the final half would slice the Spartans shooting percentage to 43.5%. UD held the rebounding edge 41-37, but the Storm's bench would out score UD 31-20. Both teams scored inside with the Spartans scoring 38 points as the Storm finished with 30 points in the paint.

"We played a great game on the defensive end of the floor against Simpson holding them to 35 percent," said Head Coach Robbie Sieverding. "Our preparation and attention to detail may have been the difference in the game. Jake Weber had one of his better games and played well on both ends of the floor. Our bench was also very good tonight and all nine guys that played scored which was great to see. Looking forward to hopefully seeing a great crowd on Wednesday as Buena Vista comes to town. Should be a great game with two quality teams on Wednesday."

UD returns home on Wednesday, January, 20 to host the Buena Vista University Beavers at 8:00 p.m. who lost at home on Saturday to the Wartburg College Knights in overtime 80-83. The Spartans will have to hold down the offense of the Beavers Nick Clark who pumped in 27 points and collected 11 assists against the Knights. Kennedy Drey added 20 points in 32 minutes as the pair combined for over half of the team's offense.
