BOX SCORE
DUBUQUE, Iowa - After leading or being tied for the first 80 minutes, the University of Dubuque saw No. 5 UW-Whitewater notch the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute in a 3-2 defeat at home on Wednesday night.

Sophomore midfielder Dani Morillo entered the game around the 30th minute and scored his third goal of the season off a scramble in the box from a sideline throw-in less than a minute later to put the Spartans up 2-1. The Spartans (10-4-1) went into halftime with the lead, but saw it evaporate with a pair of UW-Whitewater (14-2) goals in the 70th and 79th minutes.

UD held the lead for over 40 minutes, despite trailing in the shot count, 15-10, and in corner kicks, 10-3.

Spartan forward Gonzalo Hernandez got things going quickly for UD after netting his 12th goal of the year in the third minute in a non-traditional fashion. Hernandez ran down the middle of the field on a breakaway and collided with the Warhawks goalie 17 yards out from the goal. The junior kept his feet and kicked the ball into an open net to give the Spartans the early edge thanks to the goalie's misread. The Warhawks switched goalies at halftime and shut out the Spartan offensive in UD's final non-conference game of the season.

Senior UD goalkeeper Riley Jensen registered six saves in the defeat as the Spartans dropped to 1-7-1 in the all-time series agaisnt UW-Whitewater. After defeating the Warhawks 3-0 in 2011, the Spartans have dropped three, one-goal games and tied 2-2 in 2014.

UD will travel to Coe (4-10-1, 1-4 Iowa Conference) this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Kohawks have lost their last two matches by the combined score of 7-0, including their last setback, 3-0, against Simpson last Friday.
