Murfin Has a Field Day at Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa – In a meet that featured all divisions, freshman thrower Blaze Murfin notched three Top-10 performances at Simpson’s Kip Janvrin Open on Friday afternoon as a pair of sprint relays competed at the Drake Relays.
No team scores were kept in a meet that featured teams from all divisions, most were partial teams split between the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open.
Murfin placed fifth in the shot put (15.93m/52-3.25) as the top Division III finisher and third in school history. He now sits 22nd in the nation. The freshman also was top DIII finisher in a ninth-place showing in the discus (45.41m/149-0) while adding an eight-place performance in the hammer throw (50.39m/165-4).
Murfin leads the Iowa Conference in both the shot put and the hammer throw and sits third in the discus.
Senior Kebba Bojang was the top DIII finisher in the triple jump with a leap of 13.71m/33-11.75.
Sophomore Alec Bass finished sixth in a competitive 1500m field, just 1.51 seconds off the lead in a time of 3:59.85.
Drake Relays
The 4x200m relay team of Isaiah Ellis, Izaiah Lavatai, Blake Worth, and Tyler Blanchard placed 10th with a time of 1:29. 91 while the 4x100m relay team Blanchard, Clayton Gray, Lavatai, and Ellis finished 17th (42.54).
On Saturday, the spring medley relay team of Ellis, Lavatai, Worth, and Bass placed 15th with a time of 3:34.94.
The Spartans head to the Loras Twilight meet next Friday, May 6.
