RESULTS
GRINNELL, Iowa - Freshman Blaze Murfin just missed out on All-American status after finishing 10th in the weight throw at the Division III Indoor National Track and Field Championships on Friday morning.

Murfin, the 2016 Iowa Conference indoor shot put champion and school record holder in both throwing events, came in seeded 15th and placed 10th after tossing a 17.10m/56-1.25 on his third and final weight throw. The Dallas City, Ill. native was the only freshman in the 15-competitor field that included 10 seniors. Murfin was the only IIAC competitor as Luis Rivera out of Nazareth College (N.Y.) beat the field by over four-and-a-half feet to win.

Murfin needed to placed eighth for his first All-American honor and missed out by over a foot. His qualifying mark of 17.79m/58-4.5 would have made him an All-American.

Along with his IIAC title, the freshman had a successful opening indoor campaign after winning four shot put titles this season.

Murfin and the Spartans turn their attention towards outdoor season with their opening meet on Saturday, April 2 at the Wartburg Select meet in Waverly, Iowa.
