WEST ALLIS, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's cross country team placed fourth at the Warrior Invitational and were paced by a pair of Top-10 performances by senior Payton Nevills (3rd, 26:51) and sophomore Alec Bass (6th, 27:09) on Saturday morning.

The Spartans racked up 109 points and trailed host Wisconsin Lutheran, who took home the team title with 66 points. UD fell short of defending their first team title in over 50 years after defeating Wisconsin Lutheran, 106-101, a year ago.

Nevills, who earned his second, Top-10 finish of the season, outpaced teammate Bass by 18 seconds after crossing in 26:51 to earn third-place. Bass followed in sixth overall after posting a time of 27:09. The freshmen trio of Riley Holst (29:03), Hunter Reifschneider (29:26), and Hunter Klose (29:37) placed 29th, 39th, and 42nd, respectively, to complete the Spartan scoring.

Adding to the youth movement was freshman Austin Yirkovsky, who finished in 58th place with a 30:31 in his first career race. Sophomore Aaron Ofosu completed the Spartan Varsity thanks to a personal best of 31:17, good for 71st overall.

"I feel that we compete more consistently in practice on the men's side this year and that will pay dividends down the road, but right now we are a ways from a finished product and we are missing some scoring from the previous year," said Head Coach Geoff Gundlach. "I'm excited for our groups to keep working hard together as continue to see improvement."

The Spartans stay in Dubuque as they take on the Dr. Tucker Invite, hosted by Loras at the Dubuque Soccer Complex on Friday, October 16 at 4:30 p.m.
