INDIANOLA, Ill. - The University of Dubuque softball team was held to nine hits in Saturday's double-header loss to #22-ranked Simpson College Storm. In the opener UD lost 2-7 and lost game two 1-6. Unfortunately for the Spartans it doesn't get any easier in conference play as the rain delayed game versus #4-ranked Luther is re-scheduled for Monday at 3:00 p.m. in Dubuque. Next weekend the Spartans will face the Central College Dutch who were ranked #20 earlier this season and are still receiving votes in Top-25.

Mackenzie Kyle was the starter in game one and would throw 3.1 innings, allowed four hits and three earned runs and faced 19 batters before Taylor Blair came in as a reliever for 2.2 innings, she allowed five hits and three earned runs after facing 13 batters.

UD allowed nine hits and committed four errors while the host Storm allowed six hits and committed two errors. The Storm hit three doubles and a homerun as UD would be held to six singles.

Right fielder Kayleigh Leddy went 2-3 at the plate and Gianna Kuras would get the lone RBI for the Spartans.

In game two Megan Schlueter started and would go two innings and take the loss after allowing four earned runs after facing 13 batters. Randee Jackson tossed the final four innings for the Spartans allowed one earned run after facing 19 batters.

Nicole Blum, Gianna Kuras, and Courtney Markin would all be held to one hit each. Tori Woltz garnered the lone Spartan RBI on a sac bunt in the fourth inning.

UD falls to 7-17 overall and 0-2 in IIAC play. The Spartans will face the #4- Luther (23-1 overall, 0-0 in IIAC) on Monday April 11. Luther will host Coe College on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in a re-scheduled series.
