Spartans Defeat MacMurray Behind Norris' Monster Double-Double

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Senior forward Andre Norris finished 13 of 19 from the field and canned five threes en route to a 37-point, 11-rebound performance in the University of Dubuque men's basketball team's 79-67 win over MacMurray in game one of the Illinois Classic on Friday night.

Junior shooting guard Jake Mohlis added 23 points thanks to a 5-for-7 performance on threes and a 7-for-12 finish from the the floor. Norris and Mohlis led a Spartan offense that shot a season-high 53.2% from the floor, including 10 of 17 (58.8%) on threes.

"Andre and Mohlis both had very good games especially on the offensive end," said Head Coach Robbie Sieverding on his to senior leaders.

Norris came out firing after scoring 19 of the team's first 25 points to take a 23-12 lead. Mohlis canned two three's in the run as the Spartans never looked back on the way to a 46-35 halftime lead.

UD cooled down to 32.3% shooting in the second half, as MacMurray closed to 67-75 with 1:38 to go. After missing a pair of free throws, Norris regrouped and converted four straight spoil the Highlanders (0-1) season opener. 

"I thought we did an OK job against the press, but we didn't finish the game the way we wanted to," said Head Coach Robbie Sieverding. "We have a quick turn around against Illinois College on their home court and we will need to play a solid 40 minutes on Saturday to get a win."

The Spartans face host Illinois College at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, November 21 at 4:00 p.m.
