Spartans Finish Tied for Fourth in IIAC All-Sports Trophy Standings

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque athletic teams tied for fourth out of eight schools in the combined Iowa Conference All-Sports Trophy standings, with the men placing second and the women finishing eighth in their respective genders.

The Spartans improved from last season's combined standings where they tied for fifth after finishing sixth on the women's side and fifth on the men's side, respectively.

Men
Aided by IIAC Championships in both football and basketball and a runner-up finish in soccer, the men secured their highest finish in school history since the award began in 1970-71.

Earning eight points for a first-place finish, seven points for a second-place showing, etc., and splitting points during ties, the Spartan men accumulated 46.7 points in trailing Wartburg’s 58.0 points.

Women
Outdoor and indoor track finished third and fourth, respectively, and were the women’s highest place-winners en route to an eighth-place showing with 19.7 points.

Combined
When combining the men’s and women’s respective finishes, the Spartans tied for fourth in the combined all-sport rankings with Central. 

Wartburg won both the Marjorie Giles Women’s and Elmer Hertel Men’s All-Sports Trophies to take home the combined all-sports trophy.
