Spartans Trounce Scots for 7th Straight Time

Sep 15, 2015

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Senior Katie Lynn and junior Brianna Burkart each scored as the University of Dubuque women's soccer team defeated Monmouth, 2-1, on the road after allowing an own goal as the Scots only score on Tuesday night.

It was a dominant performance from a Spartan team recently ranked No. 6 in the first NSCAA North Region poll of the year. UD is the second highest of four Iowa Conference teams.

Despite outshooting the Scots (1-5), 17-1, and holding the advantage in corner kicks, 5-0, the Spartans had to rally from a 1-0 deficit after an own goal five minutes into the game. Burkart put an end to that after notching her first goal of the season off an assist from Lynn in the 14th minute. After attempting a game-high nine shots, Lynn connected in the 48th minute for her team-leading fourth goal of the year thanks to a nice assist from Julia Weninger.

UD won their third straight game thanks to some stellar defense anchored by goalkeeper Megan Moll. The freshman improved to 2-0 in her second consecutive start and collected one save on the night.

The Spartans (4-1-1) have outscored Monmouth, 20-4, during their seven-game win streak and improve to 9-1-1 in the all-time series.
The Spartans, ranked No. 6 in the year's first NSCAA North Regional rankings, faces North Park University at home this Saturday, September 19 at 2:00 p.m.
