THIRD ROUND RESULTS
FINAL ROUND RESULTS

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women’s Golf Championship begins this weekend, October 2-3, with the first 36 holes of the 72-hole Championship. This weekend’s rounds will be played at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The final 36 holes will be played October 9-10 at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta. Play will begin at 9:00 a.m. on both October 2 and 3. Loras College is the host of the 2015 Women’s Golf Championship.

Pairings for play on the first day are determined by team stroke averages. The top four 18-hole scores on courses of at least 5,800 yards have been used to determine team stroke averages. Players from the three teams with the lowest stroke average (Wartburg, Central, Luther) will play together as will players from the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-seeded teams (Loras, Coe, Simpson) and players from the seventh- and eighth-seeded teams (Dubuque, Buena Vista).

Pairings for play in rounds two, three, and four will be based on each school’s cumulative championship total. Each school may enter five players for each round with the four best performances each day used to determine the team score.

AQ on the Line:  In 2007, the NCAA expanded the size of the field for the Division III Women’s Golf Championship and will again award automatic bids to qualifying conferences. The Iowa Conference women’s golf champion will be the IIAC’s automatic qualifier to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship scheduled for May 10-13, 2016, at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is the host institution.

About the 2015 Season: Five of eight Iowa Conference schools have posted top-three finishes in a tournament this fall. Eight-time defending champion Wartburg has the top team stroke average (317.6) followed by Central (339.6), Luther (342.8) and Loras (353.4). The Knights won the season-opening Luther Sail Classic at Pheasant Ridge, then took third, fourth and fifth in succession in deep fields at the Wartburg Fall Invitational, the Division III Midwest Classic and the College City Challenge hosted by Carleton. Central took second at its own invitational and was third at the Sail Classic. Luther won its own Luther Fall Invitational, while Loras took third. Simpson posted a third-place finish at the Graceland Fall Invitational.

Individually, Wartburg has five of the top 10 stroke averages in the conference. Freshman Brooke Klostermann has the top stroke average (77.0 in eight rounds), broke 80 in six of eight rounds and finished in the top 10 of each of Wartburg’s four tournaments this fall. Junior Rochelle Beardsley – the two-time defending IIAC medalist and Player of the Year – is second at 78.3 strokes over eight rounds. Beardsley broke 80 five times and also placed in the top 10 in all four of Wartburg’s tournaments. Seniors Taylor Roberts (81.1 over eight rounds) and Hannah Long (81.7 over seven rounds) are third and fourth, respectively, while senior Molly McDonough (85.1 over eight rounds) is 10th.

Outside of the Wartburg five, Luther’s Meggie Acker (82.4 in eight rounds) ranks fifth and Central’s Chelsey Shuey (83.6 in five rounds) ranks sixth. Shuey’s Central teammates Brittany Coppess and Cierra Pulse (both 83.8 in five rounds) are tied for seventh while Luther’s Madeline Petellin (84.5 in eight rounds) is ninth.

Three golfers have picked up medalist honors in competition this fall. Klostermann won the Luther Sail Classic, Beardsley won the Division III Midwest Classic and Coppess won the Central Fall Invitational. No IIAC player has more than two top-five finishes this season, a total posted by Klostermann, Beardsley and Pulse.

Wartburg players have posted the league’s top 10 rounds this fall and 15 of the top 17. Klostermann alone accounts for six rounds of 80 or lower, including a league-best even-par 72 at the Luther Sail Classic. She also fired a 74, three 76s and a 77 this fall. Beardsley has five sub-80 rounds, led by a 74 at the Division III Midwest Classic. Long (three), Roberts (two) and Pulse (two) all have multiple sub-80 rounds.

2014 Championship Recap:  A chilly start to the final round of the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship with weather hovering at the 40 degree mark at tee-off on Saturday, proved to be better conditions than the previous round. The sun made it's appearance through the clouds as the final groups finished the final nine holes along the picturesque fall foliage of the Dubuque Golf and Country Club. Wartburg College led by 54 strokes entering the final round, but they extended the lead to 83 strokes after shooting a final day 321 en route to their eighth consecutive IIAC women's golf championship. Central College finished with a round of 350 to finish in second place.

The Knights finished the tournament with a 72-hole total of 1,276, falling two strokes shy of matching their IIAC Championship record of 1,274 set in 2013. The Dutch were second at 1,359, followed by Loras in third at 1,439 and Luther in fourth at 1,440. Coe (1,491), Simpson (1,518), Dubuque (1,532) and Buena Vista (1,690) rounded out the team scoring.

Wartburg's Rochelle Beardsley claimed her second consecutive Iowa Conference Golfer of the Year honor when she finished the final round with a 3-over-par 74 to lead all golfers on the final day. She ended the four-round tournament with a score of 23-over 309. She is the sixth Wartburg IIAC Women's Golfer of the Year and the fifth Knight to earn medalist honors at the IIAC Championships.

Pushing Beardsley was Central's Kelsey Van Tasell who finished four strokes back with a 313. The Knights claimed spots 3-6 with Morgan McMillan, an early leader for medalist honors, placing third. McMillan was the only golfer to post a sub-par round with her second-round 71 at Pheasant Ridge. Teammates Taylor Roberts (328), Samantha Heinen (333) and Hannah Long (333) placed fourth through sixth, respectively, to help lead to Knights to their eighth straight title under head coach Monica Severson. Central's Chelsey Shuey (seventh, 346), Loras' Mara Simonson (eighth, 347), Central's Christine Ausman (ninth, 348), and Coe's Jessica Franson (10th, 352) rounded out the top 10.

Wilkinson Named 2014 Coach of the Year: Central Head Coach Tim Wilkinson earned his first IIAC Coach of the Year honor in 2014. He has guided the Dutch to four second-place IIAC Championship finishes in his five years as women's coach.

Top Returning Individuals:  Six All-Conference (top-10) performers return from last season’s championship – Beardsley, Roberts, Long, Shuey, Simonson and Ausman. Beardsley (champion in 2013, 2014) and Roberts (fourth in 2014, third in 2013, eighth in 2012) are the only members of the group to earn multiple All-Iowa Conference honors. Also returning is two-time all-conference performer Molly McDonough of Wartburg. McDonough finished 10th in 2012 and fourth the following year.

Among the next 10, six return from 2014: Loras’ Lauren Gonner (11th, 354) and Dana Matykiewicz (t-13th, 358), Luther’s Madeline Petellin (12th, 357) and Sam Kraft (t-13th, 358), Central’s Rachel Cassens (t-13th, 358) and Coe’s Erin Lang (16th, 359).
