Talented Relay Brings Home Win for Men’s Track

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Iowa Conference-leading 4x100m relay secured the University of Dubuque men’s track and field team’s lone victory at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

No team scores were kept at a meet that featured numerous Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools and IIAC foes Wartburg and Loras.

The 4x100m relay team of Marcus Weathers, Jr., Clayton Gray, Najee Toomer, and Isaiah Ellis, all underclassmen, posted a time of 41.63 in their first victory of the season. Their time leads the IIAC by a wide margin of over three-quarters of a second.

Ellis, a freshman, added a second-place showing in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.79. His time currently leads the Iowa Conference by over three-tenths of a second.

The dynamic duo of Alex Link and Blaze Murfin led the throwers with a combined four Top-11 performances. Link led the pair to a fifth (47.46m/155-8) and sixth (45.46m/149-2) showing in the discus, respectively. Murfin finished sixth in the shot put (14.97m/49-1.5) while Link placed 11th in the hammer throw (47.49m/155-10) on Friday night.

The Spartans host the UD Invite next Saturday, April 23 at the Douglas J. Miller outdoor track.
