BOX SCORE
STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 3 seed Buena Vista, 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 23-25), in the first round of the Iowa Conference tournament in a hotly contested match to end their season.

It was a match that could have gone either way after being tied in the 20's in all three games. The No. 6 seed Spartans (17-18, 3-4 Iowa Conference) came out on the wrong end as they fell to Buena Vista in the first round for the second straight year. Buena Vista advances to play the Spartans chief rival, Loras, this Thursday in the semifinals.

The Spartan contingent held tough despite allowing the Beavers (18-15, 4-3 Iowa Conference) to hit .256, including .324 in the final set. UD's senior outside hitter Klaudia Basierak was the only Spartan with double-digit kills as UD mustered a .133 hitting percentage.

Basierak went out on a high note with a game-high 18 kills and registered her highest hitting percentage (.349) against any Iowa Conference foe this season. The Hainesville, Ill. native and three-time All-Iowa conference recipient concluded her career as the Spartans all-time leader in total attacks and second all-time in kills with 1838.

Fellow senior Amanda Reetz added five kills in her final game in the blue and white.

Sophomore Alyssa Cose led the Spartans with 22 assists while freshman Johanna Steggall added 14 digs.

The Spartans utilized Basierak and a roster full of young talent to register their most wins since 2007 when they finished 18-17.
