DUBUQUE, Iowa - In the debut of renovated Stoltz Sports Center, the University of Dubuque volleyball team opened with a bang after throttling Central, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 in their Iowa Conference home opener on Tuesday night.

The Spartans (6-7, 1-1 Iowa Conference) held the upper hand from start to finish starting with a defense that limited Central to a .019 hitting percentage over the course of the match. Senior Klaudia Basierak totaled five kills in the first set as UD held the Dutch to a .000 hitting percentage. Junior libero Kristin Wright put on a serving clinic and boosted the Spartans to a 12-0 advantage to start the second set that included a pair of aces. The third set proved to be a competitive bout and a back-and-forth affair, but the Spartans put the Dutch (9-3, 1-1) away thanks to some timely hitting and the aid of four blocks.

The UD offense posted a .173 hitting performance led by Basierak who collected a game-high 13 kills and Alyssa Cose's 23 assists. Defensively, the Spartans were led by outside hitter Karrah Davis, who totaled 17 digs.

UD made quick work out of the Dutch for the third time in the last four meetings with the other two wins coming via five-set bouts.

The Spartans play four games at the IIAC/NACC Challenge hosted by Loras this Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26.
