BOX SCORE
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Senior outside hitter Klaudia Basierak recorded a game-high 23 kills and moved into a tie for second-place all-time in UD history as the University of Dubuque volleyball team defeated Simpson for the fifth-straight  time, 27-25,22-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-13, in two hours and twenty-six minutes on Tuesday night.

Basierak nearly broke her UD record of 80 attacks, set against Simpson in 2013, after recording a season-high 77 attacks in the Spartans (11-12, 2-2 Iowa Conference) fifth, five-set bout of the year. The three-time First Team All-IIAC selection tied Greta Pemsl ('01) with 1626 career kills, good for second-place on the all-time list. Basierak will need to post a record-setting end to her season to catch UD's all-time leader with 2012 kills.

Basierak and Co. finished the match hitting .160 while limiting the Storm (11-12, 0-4 Iowa Conference) to .153. Despite hitting a match-best of .220 in the first set and limiting the Storm to a match-low of .042, the Spartans were pushed by the Storm to a 27-25 first-set victory, the longest set of the match. It was a back-and-forth affair from then on as both teams traded set wins the rest of the way.

Offensively, Karrah Davis finished with 15 kills while Amanda Reetz collected 11. A two-way threat and recently named to her first career All-Tournament team was Anna Runge, who hit a team-high .385 with six kills and a match-high seven blocks. Libero Kristin Wright tallied 21 digs to lead a contingent of five Spartans with 13+ digs.

The Spartans improved to 19-36 all-time against the Storm and won their fifth-straight in the all-time series. Three of the last four UD victories have gone five sets.

UD takes on Rockford University (Ill.) at home this Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m.
