Volleyball Splits a Pair at Augustana Classic

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team found themselves on both sides of a 3-0 results after sweeping Beloit and getting swept by Augustana at the Augustana Viking Classic on Friday night.

Senior Klaudia Basierak nearly collected a double-double after finishing with a team-high 11 kills to go with eight digs in 20-25, 16-25, 19-25 defeat to Augustana (4-4). The Spartans (5-7) were held to a .094 hitting percentage despite a team-high .455 hitting percentage with six kills by freshman Anna Grace.

Middle hitter Anna Runge contributed on both ends with six kills and a team-leading four block assists. 

The Spartans dropped to 19-10 all-time as UD dropped its second straight match to the Vikings.

Already with a pair of All-Tournament selections under her belt, senior hitter Klaudia Basierak was back at it again after posting 14 kills with an efficient .344 hitting percentage to lead the Spartans in dominant win over Beloit, 25-12, 25-14, and 25-19.

UD hit a season-best .565 in the second set and finished .384 for the game. Junior Hannah Zieser led the offense with 33 assists and middle hitter Anna Runge anchored the defense with a team-high 10 digs.

Three of the Spartans five wins have been sweeps, including the last two.

UD takes on Central College in their home opener next Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m.
