Women's Basketball Fall in Puerto Rico Opener

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The University of Dubuque fell to the University of Metropolitan (P.R.), 53-48, in game one of their Puerto Rico trip after shooting a frigid 27.9% from the field on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (0-3) shot 40% in the first half and took a 31-30 lead into the break. The second half was a different story as UD scored 17 points on 5 of 31 shooting (16.1%) in the second half. UD finished the game 17-for-61, including 4 of 24 on three-pointers.

Junior forward Emily Brinker paced the team with 13 points and was the lone Spartan to shoot over 50% after going 6 of 11 from the floor. Sophomore guard Abbey Meyer and senior guard Molly Richardson each collected nine points while the 5-4 Meyer added a team-high nine rebounds. 

The Spartan defense held Metropolitan to 31.8% shooting, but couldn't stay with them in the second half.

Mileishka Correa led the University of Metropolitan with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

UD faces the University of Sacred Heart tomorrow, Sunday, November 22, at noon central time.
