Women's Basketball Grab First Win in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - In their second and final game in Puerto Rico, the University of Dubuque women's basketball team were led by junior Emily Brinker's 16 points and eight rebounds en route to a 52-44 comeback victory over Corazon Delfinas on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans (1-3) shot just 35.7% from the floor, but forced Delfinas into 24.0% shooting in the second half to complete the comeback from a 30-26 halftime deficit. UD allowed only two points by Delfinas in the third quarter and outscored them 26-14 in the second half. Sacred Heart managed 33.9% overall and 4 of 21 (19.0%) on threes.

Brinker drew a game-high 11 fouls and made 6 of 11 from the free throw line while leading scorer sophomore Abbey Meyer posted 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Newcomer Kelsey Betthauser scored four points and pulled down three rebounds in her first start of her Spartan career.

The Spartans head to UW-La Crosse next Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m.
