BOX SCORE
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team was held to just 14 shots and scored a season-low as North Central put a damper on UD’s playoff hopes in 17-2 defeat to Cardinals.

The Spartans (10-6, 1-4 CCIW) were eliminated from CCIW tournament contention as they trail the Cardinals, who currently own the fourth and final spot, by two games with only one game remaining.

UD’s offense was limited in the pouring rain after the Cardinals (12-4, 3-2 CCIW) saved all four shots, a season-low, in the first half en route to an 11-0 deficit at the break. The Cardinals posted 23 shots in the opening period as UD goalkeeper Kaley Weir (9-5) notched seven of her game-high nine saves.

The Cardinals outshot UD, 36-14, on the game.

Alora Esparza and Breann Tjaarda scored one goal apiece midway through the second half to cut the Cardinal lead to 14-2. Tjaarda led the Spartans with six ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

After recently setting the UD single-season goals record, Kelly Wetherald was held scoreless for the first time this season and didn’t attempt a shot.

The Spartans face Elmhurst (4-11, 0-5 CCIW) at home this Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. in both teams’ season finale.
