BOX SCORE
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Spartans spread the wealth as three players earned two wins apiece as the University of Dubuque women's tennis team handled Buena Vista on Wednesday morning, 8-1, for their first win of the season.
The Beavers (0-6, 0-6 Iowa Conferece), coming into today's match winless and short-handed, were no match for the Spartans after UD won every match played except one.
UD's No. 1 Arantxa Martinez (won 6-1, 6-0)and No. 2 Marissa Joers (won 6-0, 6-2) took care of business as they swept both singles and doubles (8-2) matches together to produce three of the Spartans' (1-9, 1-6 Iowa Conference) wins. Spartan No. 4 Megan Ranney (won 6-4, 6-1) and No. 5 Taylor Fortmann (won 6-1, 6-0) followed suit to claim individual wins of their own. Junior Mariah Scott teamed up with Ranney to win No. 2 doubles, 8-1, and won No. 6 singles by forfeit due to BVU's lack of players.
Freshman Naomi Bokela lost a heartbreaker in a 6-3, 3-6, 8-10 setback at No. 3 singles. The Beavers only contested seven of the nine possible matches after bringing five players with them.
It was UD's second-straight win over the Beavers and improved their record to 6-7 in the all-time series.
The Spartans take on Augustana College on Tuesday, October 6 at 3:30 p.m.
