Women's Tennis Drop a Pair as Martinez Goes 4-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Sophomore Arantxa Martinez won both her single and doubles matches with Marissa Joers as the University of Dubuque women's tennis team fell to Simpson, 5-4, and Central, 7-2, on Saturday.

The Spartans (0-6, 0-4 Iowa Conference) remain winless, but Martinez continues to roll after collecting four of the Spartans six wins combined against Simpson and Central. The San Luis Potosi, Mexico native defeated Simpson's Kelli Ehrhardt, 6-3, 7-5, and Central's Annie Allgood, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 1 singles to remain undefeated (6-0). She teamed up with her partner-in-crime, Joers, to beat Simpson's pair, 8-6, and Central's duo, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Martinez and Joers are 4-2 on the season with both of their losses coming by a combined five games. 

The other two victories came via Joers, who won, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 slot against Simpson while Naomi Bokela and Taylor Fortmann combined to down Simpson's No. 3 doubles team, 8-5, for UD's fourth and final win.

UD heads to Luther next Wednesday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m.
