Zbilski and Throwers Anchor Spartans to Second-Place for Women's Track

MT. VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's track team placed second at the Cornell Hilltop Invite behind a pole vault win by Amanda Zbilski and the women throwers, who took home 12 of the 16, Top-8 combined spots between weight throw and shot put on Saturday afternoon.

UD racked up 132 points while St. Ambrose distanced itself from the rest of the field with 210 points to take home the title in the five-team field.

Zbilski set a new personal best (11-0.25) in the pole vault after beating the field by two-and-a-half feet.

Reigning Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week, Tanasha Atwater, led a clean sweep of the shot put (43-9.25) and remained undefeated in four meets on the season. Nicole Forson (39-0.25, season-best), Keely Glenn (38-3.25), and Lauren Egnarski (36-2) placed second through fourth, respectively. Glenn's mark of 38-3.25 is the fifth-best mark in UD history and a new personal record.

It was much of the same in the weight throw as Forson (47-9.75) led a UD contingent that claimed seven of the Top-8 spots. Atwater (46-1.5) placed third and freshman Rebecca Burmahl (42-6.75) took home fourth. Burmahl's mark is now fifth all-time in UD history while Abigail Willis (41-5.75) set the ninth-best mark with her fifth-place showing.

The final winner for the Spartans was the distance medley relay team of Kayla Kinateder, Amanda Zbilski, Fabiola Ortiz, and Kiersten Wenthold in 13:17.02.

UD travels to the Grinnell College Invite next Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m.
