#18-Ranked Men's Soccer Win IIAC Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The 18th-ranked University of Dubuque men's soccer team needed just two minutes to earn the game winning goal on Sunday afternoon. Gonzalo Hernandez Cascante scored 2:00 in the game, and that would be the game winner 1-0 in the Spartans Iowa Conference opener.

The Spartans kept the Beavers keeper busy all day with four saves in the first half and six saves in the second half of action. UD led in shots 23-10 and in corner kicks 11-6. Nineteen Spartans would see action in the contest and 10 would finish the day with a shot. Malcolm Phillips led everyone with eight shots and two shots on goal. Luis Gallardo earned the shutout, his sixth of the year after stopping two Beaver shots on goal. After 720 minutes in goal he has allowed just three goals for a save percentage of 87.5% and a goal against average of .38.

UD will travel to Waukesha, Wis. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to face the Carroll University Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. The Spartans will travel to Lincoln, Neb. on October 1 when they face the newest member of the Iowa Conference, the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves at 3:30 p.m.
