2017 Solomon Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque track and field team opened 2017 with one the largest meets of the season with 12 men's and women's teams battling for the title.

UD's Tanasha Atwater set a new facility record in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.4 meters (47'-3.0"), breaking mark set in 2011 by Cornell's M. Craw of 14.03 meters. She doubled up and won the women's weight throw with a toss of 16.72 meters (54'-10.25").

Colfay Pointer won the men's 400 meter dash in :50.41. Cross Country All-American Alec Bass won the 3,000 meter run in 8:52.01. Blaze Barista on the triple jump with a leap of 13.99 meters (45'-10.75").

Other facility records set on Saturday afternoon were in the women's pole vault when Elizabeth Brandenburg set a new mark with 3.81 meters (12'-06.00"), breaking record of Monmouth's Morgan Ryan of 3.45 meters set in 2014. William Penn's Tristin Elmore tied the men's high jump record of Wartburg's Jonas Elusme of 2.11 meters (6'-11.00") set in 2013.
