DUBUQUE, Iowa - Two days of wet weather couldn't stop the University of Dubuque baseball team from completing the opening game of the three game series on Friday, March 31. The Spartans early errors proved costly as they battled back from a 0-3 deficit before challenging for the win as the innings wound down in a 3-4 loss. UD scored three runs on six hits and made three errors. The Beavers scored four runs on nine hits and also committed three errors. BV left eight runners on base and the Spartans stranded seven.
Reed Stumpf earned the start on the mound for the Spartans and would strike out four in seven innings of work. Derek Erwin tossed the final two innings in relief and was perfect except for a walk.
Kelvin Medrano and Austin McWhite would both finish with a double in the loss. Medrano and teammates Tyler Imrich and Thomas Kempf would all end the afternoon with an RBI.
The two teams continue the series on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m.
