CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- With a chance to qualify for the IIAC Tournamant, the Univeristy of Dubuque women's basketball team fell short to the Coe College Kohawks, 71-79.

The Spartans got behind early as the Kohawks jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead in the first four minutes of action. After a UD timeout, the Spartans were able to make it an 11-15 Kohawks lead, but the Spartans were never able to get that close again.  A key differential in the Spartans deficit at halftime was Coe being able to connect on 8-23 three pointers in the first half, while UD could only make 1-13 from behind the arc.

Emily Brinker got the Spartans off to a hot start in the second half, hitting a three pointer on the first two possessions of the second half to cut the UD deficit to nine points. However the Kohawks continued their shooting barrage in the second half to never let the Spartans get close enough.

After struggling in the first half from behind the arc, the Spartans made 9-17 threes in the second half. For the game, UD shot 37.7% from the field, while Coe was 46.6%. UD and Coe both had 39 rebounds but UD outscored scored 20-7 on second chance points. The Spartans were also able to get 15 points off of 10 Kohawk turnovers. Coe was led by Mickey Hansche who had 24 points, Aleena Hobbs with 19 and Jenna Lehman with 17.

Emily Brinker, the lone senior for UD, finished her career with 26 points and five rebounds on Saturday afternoon. Brinker finishes the season leading the team in scoring with 16.6 points per game. Nine of the 10 Spartans that saw action scored at least three points, but Abbey Meyer was the only other Spartan to reach double figures with 10 points.

With the loss, the Spartans end their season season at 9-16, 5-11 IIAC and in eighth place in the Iowa Conference.
