BOX SCORE vs. Simpson College

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque opened Iowa Conference play on Saturday in front of a large crowd on hand at Chalmers Field and finished the afternoon with a convincing 41-20 victory for head coach Stan Zweifel. Zweifel improved his record over the Simpson Storm to 7-1 as the Spartans improved their overall record to 3-0 and 1-0 in league action.

UD would score first on a seven yard touchdown grab by Emmanuel Jenkins from Conor Feckley. UD would score in each quarter and the Storm added a touchdown in the second, third, and fourth quarters. The Spartans spread the scoring honors to five different student-athletes garnering touchdowns. Maurece Herrion was the lone Spartans to score twice, his first a one yard TD run with 14:20 remaining in the second quarter and his second score a five yard run with 8:12 left in the fourth. Herrion finished with 124 yards in 21 attempts with his longest scamper being 32 yards for an average of 5.9 yards a carry.

Quarterback Feckley completed 23 of 38 attempts for 285 yards and four touchdowns. He found seven receivers with Dylan Schultz being his favorite target. Wide receiver Schultz accepted the start in the tight end spot and made the most of his opportunity on Saturday against the Storm with 10 catches for 151 yards.

UD's defense played havoc with the Storm offense and picked off three passes. Michael Joseph garnered one and returned it for 46 yards, Jacob Owens snatched one and returned it 28 yards and Derek Trotter hauled one in on the sidelines for no return. A quarter of Spartans finished with six tackles each: Joseph, Trotter, Cody Binicewicz and Le'Devin Smith.
