Men's Basketball Clutch Down the Stretch in Win Over Luther

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball rebounded from Saturday's road loss to capture the battle on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center on Monday night over the Luther College Norse 71-65.

An impatient first half for UD kept the Norse within four points at halftime 28-24. The two squads both shot in the 30% range from the field, each team shot 35.7% from the three point arc and both struggled at the line with Luther sinking 3-5 attempts and UD making 1-2 free throw attempts.

Both teams warmed up in the final 20 minutes with UD holding the edge making 13-24 attempts (54.2%) over the Norse 14-31 attempts (45.2%). UD dropped in seven from the outside (7-11, 63.6%) and the Norse made 5-8 three point attempts (62.5%). Luther led in rebounding 36-32, as UD's Weber returned to capture a double-double with 10 defensive boards and 20 points. Jacob Mohlis sank four deep three's to finish with 13 points and Jamaree Atwater grabbed five rebounds and added 10 points in the victory.

The Spartans largest lead of the night was eight points with 8:32 left in the game, before the Norse rallied late to cut it to a basket with 1:24 left. UD hit some key shots from the outside in the final minutes to earn their fourth league victory.

UD (7-10 overall, 4-5 in the IIAC) will host the Central College Dutch on Wednesday. The Dutch (12-5 overall, 6-3 in IIAC) lost to Nebraska Wesleyan at home in Pella, Iowa on Monday night by a 86-93 mark. The Dutch finished with four players in double digit scoring and were led by Colby Taylor's 22 pts.

Saturday, the Spartans will host the Buena Vista University Beavers to cap off a very busy home schedule.
