Men's Lacrosse Drop Match to Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse scored first on Wednesday night, but the host Illinois Wesleyan University rallied back to score often in a 28-8 victory over the Spartans.

UD trailed 2-7 after the first period and 15-4 at halftime. The hot shooting hosts would outscore UD 8-4 in the third period and 5-0 in the fourth en route to a dominating victory. Illinois Wesleyan went to the bench often utilizing 34 players with 11 scoring. The Spartans Matt Penalvert led the Spartans in scoring with three goals in 12 shots. Josh Berry-Wingate scored twice after three shots and Tyson Svoboda added a pair of goals after three shots. Berry-Wingate grabbed 5-16 faceoffs and Brandon Jagitsch won 2-16 faceoffs.

Kyle Mullins was kept busy all night and stopped 20 shots after 45 minutes in goal. Sam Kopecky played 15 minutes and made two saves and allowed one goal. UD ended the night with 30 shots, 19 ground balls and 14-18 clears.  The Spartans scored on 2-4 extra man opportunities. UD is 3-4 overall and will travel to play Northland College on Saturday.
