Men's Soccer Blank Grinnell, Improve to 3-0!

BOX SCORE vs. Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer battled mother nature as much as they did the Grinnell College Pioneers in a wet, muggy Central Iowa evening on Wednesday. The Spartans held the host Pioneers scoreless in a 4-0 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Both teams were held scoreless in the opening 45 minutes of action which saw just 11 combined shots and a corner kick by UD and six by Grinnell. 

The Spartans added a point on the board at 58:31 with Kyle Klatka earning the score off an assist by Malcolm Phillips. UD's second goal was an own goal by Grinnell at 67:00 minute mark. Just a few seconds later Matheus Santos scored unassisted at 67:16. As time was running down, Skylar Showalter punched a goal in off an assist by Seamus Flanagan at 87:20.

The Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Luis Gallardo, made two saves to earn his third shutout of the season. UD finished the night with 15 shots and eight being on goal. The Pioneers ended with nine shots and two being on goal. UD led in corner kicks over Grinnell 9-7.

UD will host Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 10 on Oyen Field at 3:00 p.m.
