Men's Soccer Finish 2nd in IIAC, Host Second Round of IIAC Tourney

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer finished second in the Iowa Conference after kicking past Coe College Tuesday night 7-1. The Spartans will host a second round game on Tuesday with a time yet to be determined.

The cold, wet and windy weather didn't slow the Spartans as UD struck in less than a minute for their first goal by Malcolm Phillips off an assist from Matheus Santos at :50. Gonzalo Hernandez Cascante scored the first of his three goals at 6:27, the second at 9:18, and his third at 23:44. He helped the Spartans to a 6-0 halftime lead. Teammate Chris Rigby scored twice in the first half off assists by Hernandez Cascante and Felipe Sanchez. UD stretched the early lead to seven-0 when Bryan Gramajo scored at 73:21 off an assist by Ryan Weber. UD would allow one lone goal on the night when Will Pogge kicked it in off an assist by Yutaka Inoue off a corner kick.

Twenty-nine Spartans saw action with 11 of them getting a shot in the game on Tuesday. UD finished the night with 24 shots and 12 shots on goal.

UD improved to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the IIAC. 

Seeds in IIAC Tourney: #1-Seeded Loras College - 7-1, #2-Seeded University of Dubuque 6-2, three teams tied with 5-3 records Luther, Wartburg, and Central, and Simpson has the #6-Seed. Final seeds and First Round matches will be determined on Wednesday.
