BOX SCORE vs. Illinois Wesleyan

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team remain unblemished as they took down the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

On a perfect day for soccer, the Spartans kicked off the scoring in the 16th minute with a goal from Malcom Phillips, who handled a deflection off of the Titans goal keeper and put it in the back of the net for his third goal of the season. Phillips also contributed on the second goal of the half with a beautiful assist to Gonzalo Hernandez.

The Spartans defense was once again up to the task, as they continue their shutout streak to four games to start the season. Danny Daniels and Ryan Weber were fantastic on the backline for the Spartans to help lead the defense. UD’s goal keeper, Luis Gallardo, added four saves in the shutout, as he was building off his Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Spartans next game is on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against Aurora University at Oyen Field.
