Men's Tennis Open 2017 with Two Victories

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis team opened their 2017 season with a pair of victories on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). It was nearly warm enough to play outside in mid-February, but the Spartans opened their season in the warm confines of the CRWC. The Spartans began with a 9-0 score over Knox College and ended the night with a 6-3 win over Bethany Lutheran.
Justin Castro went 2-0 at #1 singles and 2-0 at #2 doubles. Teammates Matthew Sablay would finish 2-0 at #2 singles, Ranfer Hernandez would finish 2-0 at #3 singles, Jordan Hamling was 2-0 at #5 singles, and Zebulon Hill was 2-0 at #6 singles.
"It was a great performance in our first matches of the year," commented head coach Claudio Giraldi. "We still have alot to work and improve on. The student-athletes are happy, but they know Monday it's back on the court and training hard for our match next weekend which is also our first conference match."
