Rough Second Half Dooms Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa- After a tight first half, the University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team struggled to contain the Elmhurst College Blue Jays and fell, 3-13.

The Blue Jays kicked off the scoring 33 seconds in as Mac Harden found the back of the net to give Elmhurst an early 1-0 lead. After another goal from Elmhurst, UD finally got on the scoreboard when Michael Julius found Josh Berry-Wingate for a goal with 8:53 remaining in the first quarter. The score remained 2-1 in favor of Elmhurst until Matt Penalvert even things up early in the second quarter with his 25th goal of the season. Six minutes later, Tyson Svoboda gave the Spartans their first lead of the game on his 17th goal of the seaon.

After the Spartans gained the 3-2 lead, the momentum changed when Elmhurst squeeked in a goal with 41 seconds left in the first half to tie the game at three going into the break. Elmhurst would go on to score the next 10 goals and held  UD scoreless for the remaining 34:01. 

UD goalkeeper, Kyle Mullins, recorded 19 saves in the loss, tied for the second most saves he has recorded in a game this season. The 19 saves was one off of his season high 20 saves against Illinois Wesleyan. 

The Spartans have a 10 day layoff before they host Clarke University on Senior Day, on April 29th at 1:00 p.m.
