Softball Splits with Prairie Wolves

DUBUQUE, Iowa - A busy week for the University of Dubuque softball team ended with a split in Iowa Conference action on Fan Appreciation Day against the visiting Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves. In the opener, UD's Mackenzie Kyle would take the loss despite giving up no earned runs in the 0-1 defeat. The Spartans found their bats in game two and would swing past NWU 6-1.

The two opposing pitchers would make quick work as the two schools combined for just eight hits. UD finished with three hits, but committed one error. Kyle would strike out six batters in the loss. Courtney Markin led the offense with two hits in three at bats.

In game two, UD would score in the first and second innings to take an early 3-0 lead. The Spartans added three runs in the sixth before the Prairie Wolves fought for a run in the top of the seventh before a pop-up and a ground out would end the afternoon. UD forced NWU into leaving 12 batters on base while the Spartans stranded seven on base.

Markin went 3-4 at the plate and grabbed two RBI's. Nikki Blum went 2-3 with three RBI's, Brandy Heraty was 2-3 and Taylor Allard was 2-4 with an RBI. UD scored six runs on 11 hits and committed two errors. Kyle would earn the victory in game two after facing 19 batters in four innings. Randee Jackson threw three innings and allowed two hits, one unearned run after facing 15 batters.

The Spartans host UW-Platteville on Monday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m.
