Spartans Dominate Duhawks in 3-0 Victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque volleyball team swept their crosstown rival, Loras College, in straight sets, 25-23,25-23,25-22.

The Spartans offensive attack was once again powered by Karrah Davis and Alyssa Cose.  Davis led the team with 15 kills on the night while Cose had 32 assists.  However they were not alone on the attack as Kendall Kaufmann contributed eight kills, Lauren Egnarski with 6 and Anna Runge had 5. 

Dubuque was everywhere defensively tonight as they had 71 digs in the three sets.  Jenna Runde led the way with 17 digs, Alyssa Cose was right behind her with 15, Karrah Davis had 12, Johanna Steggall pitched in nine and Grace Strawser had eight.  Runger also added 3 blocks, while Cose had 2. 

In a back and forth third set, Grace Strawser’s serve sparked a rally to help the Spartans expand their lead and put them on the brink of winning before finally finishing them off and sending the big Spartan crowd into cheers.

The Spartans are at the IIAC/NACC Challenge this weekend in Lisle, Illinois before returning home next Tuesday against Coe College at 7:00 p.m. in the Stoltz Sports Center.
