Spartans Football Receives Votes in 2016 D3football.com Pre-season Poll

Jul 19, 2016

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Dubuque Spartan football team received 13 votes in the 2016 D3football.com pre-season national poll for NCAA Division III. Defending national champion Mount Union received 18 of 25 first-place votes and will start the 2016 season at No. 1 in the D3football.com Top 25. Linfield received three No. 1 votes, while three went to UW-Whitewater and the final one to St. Thomas.

The Spartans open their 2016 campaign at home against Bethel University as UD returns 31 letterwinners and eight starters from an unblemished Iowa Conference season, a perfect 7-0 in 2015.

“Really excited about 2016 season as we return quality starters from last season. Our biggest concern is lack of proven depth after graduating 27 seniors. Incoming freshmen and sophomores will have to contribute for us to be successful," commented Head Coach Stan Zweifel.
