Spartans Lose on Senior Night in Four Sets

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque dropped their final home volleyball match of the season to the Wartburg Knights in four sets, 1-3 (25-14, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19).

After Wartburg jumped out to take set one quickly, UD continued to battle as they dropped the second set 25-23 but had a hitting percentage of .150 in the second set compared to their .028 hitting percentage in the first set. The Spartans finally broke through in the third set, taking it 26-24 and rallying from behind late to take it. The Knights then closed out the match in another tightly contested set, winning set four 19-25, even though the Spartans had their best hitting percentage of .191.

The Spartans used 45 kills to help keep pace with the Knights on the night, led by both Lauren Egnarksi and Karrah Davis with 12 kills a piece, while Anna Graced added six and Anna Runge and Alyssa Cose both contributed five.  The Spartans also took advantage of 20 errors from the Knights. UD had three players with double digit digs, Jenna Runde with 28, Karrah Davis with 21 and Alyssa Cose had 12. Anna Runge, in her final home game as a Spartan and the lone senior, added four solo blocks to go along with her five kills.

The Spartans close out the season on Friday afternoon with matches against Rockford University and Webster University in Rockford, Illinois.
