Spartans Rout Clarke On Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team had a record day as they scored a single game record of 28 goals in route to a 28-1 win over Clarke University.

The game was never in doubt as the Spartans scored the first six goals of the game before Clarke could get on the board and then the final 22 goals. Josh Berry-Wingate began the scoring barrage in the fifth minute of action for the first of his four goals.

After taking a 10-1 lead into halftime, UD took their offense to another level scoring 18 goals in the second half which is more goals than they have scored in every game this season but two. With 5:08 remaining in the third quarter Tyson Svoboda found Michael Julius to make the game 21-1. However, that assist was Svoboda’s 100th point of his career, a UD record.

Svoboda finshed the gamed with six goals and three assists in the last game of his career. Matt Penalvert led the Spartans with 10 total points on five goals and five assists. Also playing in his final game, Josh Berry-Wingate recorded eight points with four goals and four assists while also grabbing 13 ground balls. Michael Jango led UD with two caused turnovers against the Crusaders to go along with his six goals.

UD closes out the season with a 10-7 record, the first time in school history that the men’s lacrosse program has finished with a winning record.
