Nov 2, 2016

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer Team fell to Luther College on Wednesday night in the semi-finals of the IIAC conference tournament.

In the first 20 minutes of the game, UD had eight corner kicks but just missed finding the back of the net of several shots and headers off of the corners. On just their first corner kick of the game and second shot on goal, Luther’s Nigel Nielsen scored on a header off of a corner kick from Andrew Avram in the 21st minute. The Norse piled up eight shots in the first half but only two were on goal, while Dubuque only had three shots but all of those shots were on goal.

In a fast paced beginning of the second half, the Norse were the first ones to score in the second half, just 10 minutes in to give Luther a 2-0 lead.  Luther would score two more times in the second half to give them a 4-0 lead and victory. Dubuque was able to get 10 sets off and four shots on goal and had seven more corner kicks than Luther but just could not manage a goal.

With the loss, the Spartans fantastic season comes to an end with a 13-5 record.
