Spartans Wrestle #21 Loras in a Heated Battle 22-24

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque wrestling team jumped out quickly Friday night against the #21-ranked Loras College Duhawks. The Duhawks rallied to win the final two matches by fall to capture the match 24-22 over the Spartans.

The Spartans started hot and inspired and quickly dropped the Duhawks in the first three matches leaving them scratching their heads trailing 13-0. Javier Guillen (125 lbs.) earned the fall in the third period to start the match 6-0. Printice Walls (133 lbs.) just missed extra points after winning 10-3. Jeremy Melendez (141 lbs.) won 12-1 after having his opponent flat on the mat a couple of times during the match. 

UD extended their lead to 22-5 entering the 174 lbs. match after wins by Quincy Kalkbrenner (157 lbs.) decison 7-3 and Mark Griffin Jr,'s fall in 1:08 at 165 lbs. Loras fans rallied behind their team and helped the Duhawks capture the next four matches including the final two with falls to take the hotly contested dual in front of a good crowd of local high school wrestling teams on city of Dubuque night.
