UD Phi Theta Psi to Hold St. Baldrick’s Head-Shaving Event

Mar 20, 2017

DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque Phi Theta Psi will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving childhood cancer research at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, in McCormick Gymnasium on  campus.

The public is welcome to attend the event and/or have their heads shaved. There will be door prizes as well as a silent auction with items from Olive Garden, Capri College, Buffalo Wild Wings, Mindframe Theaters, and more. Capri will do nail art and hand massages for $1, with all proceeds going directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Phi Theta Psi, a co-ed social fraternity, has raised around $30,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation over the past four years. This year’s goal is $5,000.

A child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide every two minutes and one in five children diagnosed with cancer in the United States will not survive, according to the foundation’s website. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity dedicated to funding the most promising research initiatives to find cures for childhood cancers. The foundation coordinates signature head-shaving events worldwide where volunteers collect pledges and “go bald” in solidarity with children fighting cancer.
