UD Top-10: No. 10 – Bass Sets Five School Records and Earns First XC All-IIAC in 15 Years

Bass' Profile
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Sophomore Alec Bass, a four-time All-IIAC performer, rewrote the University of Dubuque track and field and cross country record books with five new track marks and the second-fastest 8K cross country time in school history.

The Spring Green, Wis. native finished 10th at the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships to become UD’s first All-IIAC cross country performer in 15 years. His time of 26:16 earlier that season was good for second all-time.

Bass followed up with an indoor season that saw three major school records broken by healthy margins: six seconds in the mile (4:17.97), over 21 seconds in the 3000m (8:37.45), and 41 seconds in the 5000m (14:53.20). All three were set in a string of three straight races that included a mile win at the Spartan Invitational and a pair of runner-up performances in the 3000m and 5000m at the IIAC Indoor Championships.

In his first-ever outdoor season, Bass set two more records in the 1500m (3:56.43) and 5000m (15:09.49) and earned All-IIAC with third-place showing in 5000m at IIAC Outdoor Championships.

Stat Check
.02 - Margin of defeat in seconds at the 2016 IIAC Indoor Championships in the 3000m, his come-from-behind victory fell just short in his bid for his first ever IIAC individual title
