DUBUQUE, Iowa – The newly renovated Stoltz Sports Center was put to good use and saw record-setting crowds of 2100+ in men’s and women’s basketball games against Loras, including Emily Brinker’s 41-point performance, as well as a University of Wisconsin versus University of Northern Iowa men’s basketball preseason scrimmage.

Shortly after adding the 600-seat student section behind the south end basket and a new Sparty logo in the center, Stoltz played host to a high-profile, closed scrimmage between the Badgers and the Panthers. Stoltz’s unique “opening” event paved the way for UD athletics, especially men’s and women’s basketball, which finished 11th and third nationally in attendance, respectively.

Men’s basketball’s win over Loras on January 27 set an all-time attendance record of 2,622 fans. Most of those same fans witnessed a historic, 41-point, 14-rebound outburst from junior forward Emily Brinker that included a buzzer-beating, game-tying jumper to send the game into overtime that led to a national weekly honor from HeroSports.com.

Stat Check
6 - Brinker was six points shy of tying the UD women's single-game scoring record of 47 points set back in 1978. Nevertheless, a brilliant shooting performance that featured 11 jumpers, including three 3s, out of her 17 made field goals.
