UD Women Claim Spartan Invite Title, Men Finish Second

The Spartans honored the senior student-athletes on the track and field team at Friday's UD Invite. The women's team captured the title
with 138 points and the men's team placed second with 126 points. UD will host the 2017 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
championships on Friday and Saturday, February 24-25, on A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track in Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center.

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque track teams had another successful meet on Friday at the Spartan Invitational, as they gear up for the IIAC Championships next weekend. The UD women’s team won the meet, scoring 138 team points, while the men’s team came in second place with 126 points.

The Spartans set three school records on the evening, starting with the women’s 4x200 relay with a time of 1:45.26. On that relay for UD was Alyssa Skrove, Amanda Zbilski, Tierra Hildenbrandt, and Alison Beeman. Fabiola Ortiz, while only finishing second in the mile, still set a school record by nearly five seconds, as she posted a time of 5:02.45. The only school record set on the men’s side was by Blaze Murfin in the shot put, as he launched a throw 16.47m.

Both teams take part in the Iowa Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday, which is being hosted by UD at the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness City. Events begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
