Volleyball Edged by Nebraska Wesleyan in Four Sets

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Women’s volleyball fell to Nebraska Wesleyan in a hard fought matchup Friday night, 1-3 (26-24,25-13,21-25,25-21).

In the first set Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a quick lead, but the Spartans responded and took a lead late in the set only to have Nebraska Wesleyan rally late and take the set.  After Nebraska Wesleyan took set two as well, Dubuque responded and took set three in a thrilling set. In the fourth set, UD kept battling, but the Prairie Wolves were able to sneak it out and take the match.

The Spartans offensive attack was led by Karrah Davis with 16 kills and Lauren Egnarski added another 12. The entire UD defense stepped up and had a team effort as four different Spartans had double digit digs.  Jenna Runde had 16, Alyssa Cose and Karrah Davis followed right behind with 14 and Grace Strawser pitched in 10.

The Spartans have a quick turnaround, as they face the Buena Vista University Beavers at the Stoltz Sports Center Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

Buena Vista comes in with a 12-10 overall record and a 3-2 conference record. On the offensive end, they are lead by the duo of Maddie Bardole and Jade Schaap.  Bardole has 254 kills while Schapp has 252, Ali Grein has also added 167 kills, with Ashley Pelton leading the way with 432 assists. On the backside Buena Vista is led by Sydnee Donnelli with 313 digs and Maddie Bardole has 246.
