Volleyball Falls to Ranked Competition at Active Ankle Invite

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Dubuque fell in both of their matches Saturday morning to finish up the Active Ankle Invite.  The Spartans dropped the first game of the day 0-3 (25-17,25-22, 25-15) against #25 UW-Eau Claire and their second game of the day to Millikin 0-3 (25-23, 26-24, 27-25), finishing the invite 0-4.

In the early game against #25 UW-Eau Claire, the Spartans used a balanced attack as four Spartans had at least five kills, with Karrah Davis leading the way with 10. Anna Grace pitched in eight, Anna Runge had six and Kendall Kaufman with five. On defense, Davis added 11 digs to go along with her 10 kills and Jenna Runde led the Spartans with 18 of the Spartans 60 digs.

To close out the match, the Spartans lost a back and forth, tight battle against Millikin 0-3, with all three sets being decided by two points.  UD finished with a team hitting percentage of .165 in the game with Lauren Egnarski powering the attack with seven kills, Karrah Davis with six and both Anna Runge and Anna Grace had five. Jenna Runde and Johanna Steggall led UD with 19 of the Spartans 39 digs in the contest. The Spartans also totaled eight total team blocks in the game with Anna Runge producing 4 block assists and one solo block.

On the season, Anna Runge is leading the team in blocks with 103 total, 75 of those being assists and 28 being solo blocks. Next on the blocks list is Anna Grace with 55 blocks, 49 assists and only six solo blocks. There are five Spartans that have more than 200 digs on the season, leading with Jenna Runde with a total of 423 digs.  Karrah Davis is next with 322, while Grace Strawser, Alyssa Cose and Johanna Steggall have 269, 252 and 236 digs respectively.

The Spartans return home on Tuesday to face Wartburg College in their final home game of the regular season with varsity beginning at 7:30.
