BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque's men's basketball team returned to the win column with a convincing 80-65 victory over the Simpson College Storm on Wednesday. The Spartans largest lead of the night was 22 points with 6:51 left, UD led for 23:42 of the game.

The Spartans Jake Weber has been a model of consistency in 2016-17, once again leading all scorers with a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds. He is tied for first among all players in NCAA Division III statistics with 11-13 double-doubles entering the night. Weber finished the night sinking 11-13 shot attempts from the field or nearly 85%."Jake Weber once again had a great game with 23 and 12 and we also got some production from our bench with Jalen Jackson and Henry Thompson. We did a solid job on Amsbaugh because he really makes them go and is a tough match up for anyone in our league," said UD head coach Robbie Sierverding. Weber, last week's HERO Sports Hero of the Week, would help the Spartans shoot 56.7% from the field as a team (34-60). UD would also connect on 10-22 shots from beyond the arc (45.5%) with Henry Thompson sinking 3-4 attempts.

Jamaree Atwater added 14 points, but the crowd was brought to it's feet with a pair of thundering dunks in the second half. Jalen Jackson sank 5-9 attempts to end with 13 points and teammate Jacob Mohlis 10 points. "Our guys really executed defensively against Simpson and our effort was terrific on that end.  Simpson has a nice team and we played really well on both ends tonight," said Sierverding.

UD will travel to play the newest member of the Iowa Conference, the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Lincoln, Neb. A short turnaround for a rare Monday night game when the Luther College Norse journey to Dubuque.

Nebraska Wesleyan (9-4 overall, 3-2 in IIAC) lost to Coe 73-85 on Wednesday and Luther (2-10 overall, 0-5 in IIAC) did not play on Wednesday.
