Women's Basketball Drops Home Opener in Shootout

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team was upended by the Augustana Vikings on Tuesday night, 80-100.

UD jumped out to the lead early tonight as they led Augustana after the first quarter 26-19. Augustana used a big run in the second quarter and kept fighting off each Spartan run for the remainder of the game. The Spartans used a very balanced attack tonight as 10 different Spartans tallied points. Emily Brinker, Abbey Meyer and Madison Boer all reached double figures for the Spartans. Brinker dropped in 19, Meyer 17 and Boer had 12. 13 of the 14 Spartans that saw action recorded at least one rebound. UD was led on the glass by Emily Brinker with nine rebounds, leaving her one short of a double-double, she also added two blocks on the defensive end, T’Nauzhae Robinson came off the bench to grab eight boards and Abbey Meyer grabbed six to go along with her 17 points.

In a game that featured 59 total fouls, the Spartans made 34 of 39 free throws for 87.2%, while Augustana was 29 of 39. Abbey Meyer and Madison Boer were both perfect from the stripe tonight, Meyer made all 11 of her free throw attempts, while Boer made all 10 of hers. The Spartans shot 51.7% from the field in the first half before cooling down and shooting only 23.3% in the second half. However UD shot 32 of their 39 of their free throws in the second half, converting on 29 of them.

The Spartans travel to Ashland, Wisconsin on Saturday to take on Northland College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
