Women's Basketball Rolls Past Mount Mary

PLYMOUTH, Wis.- The University of Dubuque women's basketball team defeated Mount Mary on Saturday afternoon 83-40 to finish the Lakeland Tip-Off Tournament 1-1 and move to 1-2 on the year. 

Abbey Meyer led all scorers with 16 points, while also leading the Spartans with five rebounds and six assists. UD's T'Nauzhae Robinson and Emily Brinker both finished with 11 points as the second leading scorers for the Spartans. Kelsey Betthauser also chipped in nine points with five rebounds and Brinker added four assists with her 11 points. 21 Spartan players saw action on Saturday with 14 of those players scoring points. The Spartans bench provided plenty of support scoring as they dropped in 34 points. 

The Spartans shot 39.7% from the field, while their stiffling defense held Mount Mary to 20.5% shooting. UD's defense forced 36 turnovers, 20 of which were steals, and scored 41 points off of those turnovers. The Spartans grabbed 52 rebounds, 27 defensive and 25 offenseive, while holding Mount Mary to just 33 rebounds for the game, which resulted in 14 second chance points. 

The women's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday night for their home opener against Augstana College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night is also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.
