Women's Cross Country Place Third at Mt. Mercy Mustang Gallop

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - It was an epic battle for the win on Thursday night, UD's Fabiola Ortiz and the returning NCAA Division III National Champion in cross country, Corell College's Abrah Masterson fighting for the victory. Ortiz would finish second to Masterson as the two squared off in the opening meet. Ortiz stopped the clocks in 14:50 over the 4K course at Morgan Creek Park.
The Spartans were paced by Ortiz and teammates senior Kiersten Wenthold (7th in 15:33), junior Kayla Kinateder (13th in 15:58), freshman Megan Ely (34th in 16:48), junior Jaclyn Roeder (39th in 16:54).
UD's other runners included; Junior Kristin MacKenburg (56th in 17:42), junior Melissa Todman (70th in 18:24), freshman MacKenzie Helgemoe (73rd in 18:30), freshman Isabella Mazzanti (74th in 18:33), Junior Taylor Blair (85th in 20:31), junior Bobbi Jo Helgemoe (88th in 21:33),
"Across the board we did a nice job, and we're in a good place to move up to 6k & 8k," commented head coach Geoff Gundlach. "This is a good supportive and hard working group with great things to come this season."
